Ouch, I'm Tender

Sung to the tune of "Love Me Tender" by Elvis
Hurt my shoulder
Pulling parts
Pain goes down my arm
Carpal tunnel
Manager says
Won't do me no harm
Went to visit
Company doc
Oh boy, what a thrill
Inject some steroids
Pop some pills
All my pain to kill
Repetition,
Bend and twist
Screwed up both my wrists
Bending, lifting
What's the risk?
Blown out all my disks
Workers injured
Some made lame
Then they're made to blame
Fit the worker
To the job
Isn't that a shame
Ouch, I'm tender
This is true
All these strains and sprains
All my aching
Body parts
Driving me insane
Awkward postures
Excessive force
All my joints to swell
Ergonomics
Please come soon
'Cause I hurt like hell
Every year on April 28, Workers Memorial Day, we honor fellow
workers who have been hurt or killed on the job and renew our
struggle for safe workplaces.
No one should have to die for a job--or spend a lifetime
crippled or ill. But thousands of employers are fined again and
again for unsafe conditions that endanger workers.
Are workers in your community in danger--Check Working America's
Job Tracker to find out if local workplaces have violated health
and safety rules.
http://www.unionvoice.org/ct/rdAlzg51gu6Q/
For the first time in a decade, workplace fatalities are on the
rise. On an average day in 2004, 152 workers lost their lives as
a result of workplace injuries and diseases and another 11,780
were injured. Yet the Bush administration has blocked or
withdrawn dozens of important safety rules and has put corporate
executives in charge of government job safety programs.
The right to safe jobs was hard won 35 years ago with passage of
the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). But today, that
right is threatened by corporate interests and their friends in
Congress and the White House.
Worker safety must be a national priority.
On April 28, join us in observing Workers Memorial Day. Please:
-Search Working America's Job Tracker to find out whether
workplaces in your community are jeopardizing workers' health
and safety. You can search Job Tracker by clicking on the
following link:
http://www.unionvoice.org/ct/rdAlzg51gu6Q/
-Talk to your co-workers, friends, neighbors and family. Tell
them Congress should strengthen OSHA and reject moves by
employers and even the Bush administration to weaken it.
-Download fact sheets and fliers about workplace safety and
share them with co-workers, family and neighbors. You can do so
by clicking on the following link:
http://www.unionvoice.org/ct/r1Alzg51gu6P/
-Take part in a public event--a rally, a candlelight vigil, a
memorial service or a moment of silence--to remember those who
have died on the job and to highlight job safety problems in
your workplace, community or nationwide. Contact your central
labor council to find out about planned activities.
Together, we can protect workers.
Thank you for all you do for working families.
Sincerely,
Working America, AFL-CIO
